Gosport Voluntary Action

Welcome to Gosport Voluntary Action

Gosport Voluntary Action (GVA) is an independent charity providing voluntary sector support, community development, domestic help, information, community transport services and a range of other services for the residents of the borough of Gosport. GVA is the local Council of Voluntary Service (CVS) for the Gosport area, with a membership made up of over 200 voluntary and community organisations operating for the benefit of local residents.

Our aim is to improve the quality of life for residents of Gosport, in particular older people and people with disabilities, through the work of our various projects which include:

Befriending, Advocacy for Older People, Dustbusters, Decorating & Repairs Taskforce, Gosport Gardens, Give, Gain & Grow Volunteer Group for adults with mental health issues, Supported Volunteering,  GVA Community Engagement Team, Gosport Volunteering Team, Loud & Proud Volunteering Group for young people aged 16-25, Driving Force, Community Transport & Gosport Shopmobility.

You can find out more about any of these projects by clicking on the menu GVA pull-down menu at the top of the website.

Gosport Voluntary Action is a member of the National Association for Voluntary & Community Action (NAVCA).

IMPORTANT! – Gosport Voluntary Action Statement regarding recent Social Media activity about us, June 2016

There have been recent comments on social media which suggest that Gosport Voluntary Action is ceasing to support the Supported Volunteering Group known as ‘ Give Gain & Grow’. Whilst the main allocated funding has ended for the group, Gosport Voluntary Action continues to support the group as they develop in their own right. This means we will continue to help them to look for appropriate funding, give advice on training and networking, help them engage with their group members and anything else that they need to function as a supportive peer-to-peer unit.

GVA have submitted four substantial funding bids aimed at continuing the work that Sue Greene, the Project Leader, has started but very sadly, none have been successful in this climate of austerity.  We have also approached statutory bodies in order to let them know the degree of need and to ask them to consider the important contribution made by the group but they, too, are not in a position to support it financially at present.  However, GVA has been appointed by Hampshire County Council as the lead Council of Voluntary Action with the responsibility of developing  potential costed Supported Volunteering models, which could provide a basis for funding bids to Adult Services in the future.  This is in recognition of our commitment to  excellence in providing a Supported Volunteering service over the last 15 years and going forward.

Gosport Voluntary Action is totally committed to being an all-inclusive organisation that welcomes volunteers from all walks of life, regardless of any additional support needs they may have. We will continue to find appropriate placements with local community groups and voluntary organisations for volunteers with support needs. We also continue to support our member organisations and any groups who need our advice and help on good volunteering practice and to help develop new opportunities that make the most of volunteers’ abilities.

Gosport Voluntary Action operates a complaints procedure, link attached, and anyone wishing to discuss any issues with the Chief Officer should ask for a copy of this procedure and make an appointment to put their complaint forward. Complaints are treated in the strictest confidence. Any communication on these issues should be addressed to: Nicky Staveley at chiefofficer@gva.org.uk or in writing to GVA, Martin Snape House, 96 Pavilion Way, Gosport PO12 1FG, Hampshire.
